Dear Commissionaire, Dear Mr Navracsics,
We are writing to you as a follow-up to the conference ‘Football unites, racism divides: No to Racism. No to Xenophobia. No to Antisemitism.’ that took place in the European Parliament (EP) on 23 May 2018 and that was organized by the EP Sports Intergroup, the EP Anti-Racism and Diversity Intergroup (ARDI), the EP Working Group on Antisemitism (WGAS), the European Jewish Congress and B’nai B’rith International.
We are happy to inform you that the conference was a success and that we issued a report/summary of the event highlighting the main ideas and best practices shared by the speakers and participants as well as ways forward in combating racism and antisemitism in professional football (see Annex I).
The online campaign designated to signal that there is no place for hatred in sports or in public life with the hashtag #NotInMyGame was endorsed by football players, Members of the European Parliament, civil society organisations etc. We would like to thank you for your personal support of this campaign on Twitter. We also welcome the recent Cooperation Agreement between UEFA and the European Commission and the Commission’s commitment to fight against any type of discrimination in sports.
As part of the initiative ‘Football unites, racism divides: No to Racism. No to Xenophobia. No to Antisemitism.’, we would like to send a letter to all national football associations and league clubs across Europe requesting to join in the campaign #NotInMyGame and to adopt in their statutes a clause indicating that racism and antisemitism are not tolerated in their games.
We believe that only by standing united against hatred in all its forms and in all parts of society, we will be able to eradicate it and send a strong message that this behavior is not accepted in the Europe.
Hence, we would greatly appreciate if you would be willing to support this initiative by co-signing the mentioned letter (see Annex II).
We look forward to your positive response.
