European Parliament Anti-Racism and Diversity Intergroup bureau and priorities established for 2019-2024 mandate
The European Parliament Anti-Racism and Diversity Intergroup (ARDI) has appointed a new bureau to lead its work in the European Parliament on combatting racism and promoting diversity at the European Union level.
The new bureau will be cross party and includes Members of European Parliament (MEPs) from different EU Member States. The members in the bureau are Co-Presidents Cornelia Ernst, Magid Magid, Pierrette Herzberger-Fofana, Romeo Franz, Samira Rafaela, Evin Incir, Julie Ward and Vice-Presidents Hilde Vautmans and Peter Pollak.
The priorities of the Intergroup in the new mandate will be to
• Mainstream anti-racism and diversity in European Union policy areas and support initiatives on other discrimination grounds (such as the adoption of the European Union Equal Treatment Directive)
• Call for strategies/plans on racism and on specific issues such Afrophobia, anti-Gypsyism, anti-Semitism and Islamophobia, as well as ensure the renewal of the National Roma Integration Strategy
• Strengthen EU and national legal basis to tackle all crimes of hate speech and crime and to ensure investigation and prosecution of racist crimes
• Promote diversity in the workplace and in political participation as well building the capacity of diverse policymakers
