Letter to President Sassoli on commemorating International Holocaust Remembrance Day 2020
We are writing to you as Members of the European Parliament and bureau members of the European Parliament Anti-Racism and Diversity to ask for your support in commemorating the victims of the Roma Holocaust within the International Holocaust Remembrance Day on January 27th 2020.
This largely forgotten side of the Holocaust where thousands of people with a Romani background were exterminated has already been recognised by the European Parliament and European Commission. We believe that is it important to continue this as it is an undeniable part of our history and in particular these days when extremism and anti-Roma sentiments are on the rise in the EU.
We would be grateful if we could be included in the preparation of the Parliament’s Holocaust Remembrance activates that will take place in the coming weeks.
