Marine Le Pen proposes “to eradicate bacterial immigration”
On November 10th, Marine Le Pen, the leader of France’s National Front, claimed that non-European immigrants pose a health hazard to European citizens. Her comments are the latest in a series of ‘provocations’ regarding migrants and asylum seekers.
Mixing immigration with public health concerns, Ms Le Pen claimed that medical reports, in areas with a high concentration of migrants and asylum seekers, indicate a resurgence of diseases once eradicated from France.
Cécile Kyenge, Co-Preisdent of ARDI, said: “Marine Le Pen’s intentional mixing of immigration with public health concerns is a calculated move designed to stoke further support for the National Front’s policies. Moreover, comparing fellow human beings to a disease and calling for their eradication is an incitement to hatred and violence. I urge the French national court to look into the possibility of pressing charges or at the very least the national authorities should pursue sanctions against Ms Le Pen.“
